TREATMENTS:  Cultured pearls may be bleached to improve even distribution of color, making it easier to match pearls for strands, etc. Likewise, dyeing is also sometimes used to make larger quantities of pearls closer in color. Irradiation is sometimes used to either darken pearls, or to improve the irridescence of the nacre. Bleaching is considered permanent, and dyeing and irradiation may or may not prove permanent, as dyed or darkened pearls may fade over time. The diamonds are natural untreated gems.

CARE:  Never subject pearls to steam, chemicals, detergents or abrasives. Use a dampened soft cloth or approved organic cleaner such as Jewel Brite to clean them, but do not leave them in the liquid, and do not scrub them with brushes. Clean by hand, gently rinse with mildly warm water, and pat dry. There is no need to clean pearls often. They should be generally just wiped off with an untreated microfiber or other lintless cloth, then stored in soft-lined jewelry drawer compartments, or in tarnish proof bags (if they are mounted with silver, for example), and away from the constant touch of other jewelry, which can scratch the surface of pearls over time. Their hardness is rated 2.5 on the scale of 1 to 10, so they are prone to marring if not well cared for. The diamonds in this piece do not require any special treatment.
